Description
The Alamos mud turtle (Kinosternon alamosae) is a species of mud turtle in the family Kinosternidae. It is endemic to Mexico, where it occurs in the states of Sinaloa and Sonora.

Alamos mud turtle is predominantly an omnivorous species, feed primarily on invertebrates. Their diet also incorporates aquatic vegetation, fungi, and carrion, emphasizing nutritionally diverse feeding habits.
Appearance
Alamos mud turtle is a small-to-medium sized turtle with a high-domed, olive-brown carapace and a hinged plastron. Its head is dark colored with distinctive yellow barring and markings, with a prominent beak-like mouth. The species displays minimal sexual dimorphism, with males being generally larger. Its limbs and tail are scaly and muscular, suited to its semi-aquatic lifestyle.
Behavior
Alamos mud turtle displays a primarily nocturnal lifestyle, actively foraging for food, which consists of insects and mollusks, at night whilst hiding in bottoms of streams or ponds during the day. Its defensive behavior includes retracting its head and legs, then closing its hinged plastron for protection. Coincidentally, this solitary animal is non-territorial, surviving primarily in freshwater environments.
