 The Rio Grande Ground Squirrel (Ictidomys parvidens, Syn: Spermophilus parvidens, Spermophilus mexicanus parvidens) is a squirrel species from the genus Ictidomys. He lives in northern Mexico as well as southern New Mexico and western Texas.

 Rio grande ground squirrel primarily consume a herbivorous diet, with a strong preference for seeds, fruits, and nuts. However, they are opportunistic feeders occasionally supplementing their diet with insects and small invertebrates when available. 
   Appearance
 Rio grande ground squirrel is a small, burrowing mammal with a slim, elongated body covered in short, soft fur. Predominantly light brown in color, it has white patches on its belly and face. Its distinguishing features include a pair of small, rounded ears, large dark eyes, and a bushy tail. Appearance is indistinguishable between genders and across different life stages. 
   Behavior
 Rio grande ground squirrel is eminent for its diurnal foraging pattern, feeding primarily on seeds, nuts, and small insects. The species exhibits intriguing solitary behavior, unless breeding season occurs, where temporary pair-formations are noted. Distinctively, it communicates through ultrasonic vocalizations, a rare trait among ground-dwelling mammals. Its territory, marked by scent markings, is staunchly defended against intruders.
