Description
Ichnotropis capensis is a species of African lizard, which is native to the southern Afrotropics. It is the type species for the genus Ichnotropis, and is commonly called the Cape rough-scaled lizard due to them being found in southern Africa's Cape region. The small lizards are terrestrial and occur in grassland, desert and brush areas of southern Africa.

The diet of cape rough-scaled lizard primarily consists of small invertebrates. Careful water-based foraging enables it to consume larvae, annelids, crustaceans, and insects, often from under stones or within aquatic vegetation.
Appearance
Cape rough-scaled lizard is a small, slender skink with a streamlined body covered in smooth, shiny scales. It sports a dominant dark brown color, complemented by cream or whitish stripes running lengthwise from head to tail. Its tapered tail is often longer than the body itself. Aside from size, there's little visual difference between genders or age groups.
Behavior

It is solitary, with males often engaging in defense against intruders within their territorial range. It possesses adept climbing abilities, employing them for foraging and avoiding predators.
