 The Oita salamander (Hynobius dunni) is a species of salamander in the Hynobiidae family endemic to Japan. Its natural habitats are temperate forests, rivers, intermittent rivers, freshwater marshes, intermittent freshwater marshes, and irrigated land. It is threatened by habitat loss.

 Oita salamander is a small salamander with a slender, elongated body and smooth, moist skin. It possesses a prominently dark brown color marked by lighter spots along the side. The species exhibits a long and thin tail, which is a key attribute of the genus. No significant variation in appearance exists among different ages or genders of the species. 
   Behavior
 Oita salamander is typically solitary and nocturnal, engaging in foraging during the cooler night hours. Noted for its unusual reproductive behavior, it displays unique courtship rituals and complex male-female interactions during breeding season. Oita salamander tends to live and forage in specific, often aquatic, territories and shows defensive behavior when its territory is invaded.
