Description
Hyloscirtus alytolylax is a species of frog in the family Hylidae found in Colombia and Ecuador. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, and rivers. It is threatened by habitat loss.

Appearance
Babbling torrenteer is a medium-sized frog with a robust body and smooth skin. Its palette features Dunn's Brown and Bitter Chocolate colors, spotted with tan or pale yellow. This frog's distinguishing marks include subtle, thin, pale yellow longitudinal lines. Juveniles possess a more vivid coloration. Males also exhibit a larger than average humeral spine not observed in females or young specimens.
Behavior
Babbling torrenteer display nocturnal tendencies, primarily engaging in foraging activities during the night hours. They share unique reproductive behaviors, females selecting egg-laying sites near waterfalls to shield their offspring from predators. Despite living in close proximity, interactions are minimal, highlighting their predominant solitary nature. They mark their territory by calls rather than physical markers.
