Description
Hylodes asper, or the Brazilian torrent frog, is a species of frog in the Hylodidae family. It is endemic to the Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo states in southerastern Brazil. Living in a high-noise environment, the species uses "semaphoring" to supplement acoustic signalling.

Brazilian torrent frog predominantly feeds on a variety of small invertebrates, chiefly arthropods. Its dietary habits are characterized by a preference for ants, termites, and beetles, which constitute a major part of its intake.
Appearance
The brazilian torrent frog is a small, slender frog with rough, granular skin. Its primary coloration is dark brown or green, often with darker marbling or spots. Striking features include oversized vocal sacs in males, making their throats broadly inflated during calls. There's negligible difference in appearance across genders or age groups, aside from variations in size.
