Description
The common green frog (Hylarana erythraea) is a frog species of in the true frog family Ranidae; some sources still use the old name Rana erythraea. It lives in Southeast Asia and is also known as green paddy frog, red-eared frog or leaf frog. The last name, however, commonly refers to the Neotropical tree frogs which make up the subfamily Phyllomedusinae. These are not closely related to H. erythraea, belonging to family Hylidae instead.

Common green frog possesses a predominantly insectivorous diet, primarily indulging in small invertebrates like insects and spiders. Its diet also includes earthworms, which it hunts mostly during the night hours.
Appearance
The common green frog is a medium-sized frog with a slim, streamlined body covered in smooth skin. It displays a bright green upper body and light yellow underside. Dark brown bands are found on the legs and around the eyes which extend to the eardrum. Juveniles possess an orange-red coloration that gradually evolves into the adult's green hue. The common green frog lacks any additional outstanding morphological features like horns or wings.
Behavior
Common green frog is predominantly nocturnal and terrestrial, frequenting streams and water bodies for foraging and breeding activities. It exhibits explosive breeding, with males attracting females using a variety of vocalizations. Although solitary in nature, high population densities can lead to group interactions during the breeding period. Its jumping agility and camouflage coloring aid in evading predators.
