General Info
Lifespan
7-10 years
Diet
Banded sea snake is an entirely piscivorous reptile, consuming small to medium-sized fish. Notably, it exhibits a preference for benthic fish species that inhabit bottom or near-bottom ocean environments.
Appearance
Banded sea snake is a medium-sized sea snake with a round, elongated body covered in smooth scales. Its dominant color is dark blue, with distinctive lighter parallel stripes that run along the body, becoming brighter towards the tail. This species does not possess any significant differences in appearance due to age, gender, or subspecies.
Behavior
Banded sea snake is a largely solitary, marine creature, displaying distinct nocturnal hunting patterns. This species displays non-territorial tendencies, engaging less in aggressive confrontations. Utilising its venom for hunting rather than defense, banded sea snake uses a distinctive ambush strategy to prey on small fish, further illustrating its advanced adaptation to an aquatic habitat.
