Description
The Panama-Capybara (Hydrochoerus isthmius) is a mammal of the guinea pig family (Caviidae). It forms together with the Capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) the genus Hydrochoerus and is after this the largest living rodent today. It's from northern Colombia to Panama.

Lesser capybara primarily relies on an herbivorous diet, feeding extensively on aquatic vegetation, grasses, and fruit. Despite being excellent swimmers, they prefer eating terrestrial plants, which are often consumed during nocturnal feeding activities.
Appearance
Lesser capybara is a medium to larger-sized rodent with a robust, semi-aquatic body. Its dense fur is coarse with a grayish-brown color. The head is large with small ears and eyes and elongated snouts. Notable features include partially webbed feet well-suited for swimming. There are no significant age, gender, or subspecies appearance differences.
Behavior
Lesser capybara is primarily crepuscular, foraging on aquatic vegetation during twilight hours. This semi-aquatic rodent is highly social, living in groups marked by complex hierarchy. Lesser capybara exhibits unique vocal communication and mutual grooming habits. Although not territorial, confrontations within groups are common, and are resolved using non-aggressive tactics.
