Diet
The primary food source for the hole-in-the-head frog species, otherwise known as the Javan Tree Frog, comprises of smaller arthropods, primarily spiders and insects. This frog species exhibits a predominantly insectivorous diet, and hunts predominantly at night.
Appearance
Hole-in-the-head frog was a near-black bird with a long, curved beak and comparatively large tail feathers. This species' distinct characteristic was its striking sexual dimorphism: males had a straight, sharply pointed beak, while females had a longer, down-curved beak. Juveniles resembled adults but were a bit grayer and had shorter beak. Its feathers were predominantly glossy black with an iridescent sheen, underlining its unique visual appeal among avifauna.
Behavior
Hole-in-the-head frog exhibits a probing behavior using its peculiarly shaped beak to extract food, augmented by sound-localization abilities - an adaptation to its forest environment. Territorial and mostly monogamous, adults engage in duets amplifying their acoustic communication. Predominantly diurnal, these solitary birds become highly social during the breeding season.
