The Chinese edible frog, East Asian bullfrog, or Taiwanese frog (Hoplobatrachus rugulosus) is a species of frog in the Dicroglossidae family. It is found in Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Appearance
Chinese edible frog is a medium-sized frog with a robust body and smooth, moist skin. Its core color is a mix of brown and green, often with random dark spots. It has powerful hind legs and webbed feet ideal for swimming. The sexes differ, with males becoming yellow and vocal sacs visible during mating season. Notably, it also possesses a tapered snout and a horizontal pupil.
Behavior
Chinese edible frog is primarily nocturnal, engaging in hunting and feeding activities after sunset. It demonstrates solitary behaviour, with males exhibiting territorial aggression, primarily through vocalisation. Exceptionally, chinese edible frog can leap multiple times its body length, an adaptation for quick escapes and efficient predation in its native semi-aquatic habitats.
