Diet
Spiny hill turtle is an omnivorous species, primarily feeding on vegetative materials such as fallen leaves, fruits, and flowers. Also, it consumes invertebrates, particularly earthworms and mollusks, supplementing its diet.
Appearance
Spiny hill turtle is a medium-sized turtle with a heavily armoured, cone-shaped carapace and a distinctively spiky-edged shell, covered in hard, scaly skin. Predominantly blackish-brown, it displays a pattern of tiny yellow spots to blend into its environment. The males are differentiated by longer, thicker tails and more pronounced spines on the shell.
Behavior
Spiny hill turtle is a primarily solitary species, exhibiting a unique defensive behavior by raising its sharply serrated rear carapace to deter potential predators. It is largely sedentary, with opportunistic foraging behavior predominantly consisting of omnivorous dietary intake. Spiny hill turtle's territoriality is typically displayed through male-male combat during the breeding season.
