Description
 The giant Asian pond turtle (Heosemys grandis) inhabits rivers, streams, marshes, and rice paddies from estuarine lowlands to moderate altitudes (up to about 400 m) throughout Cambodia and Vietnam and in parts of Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar and Thailand.

 Giant asian pond turtle is primarily herbivorous, mainly feasting on a diverse selection of leaves, fruits, and flowers. With an inclination towards aquatic plants, it occasionally supplements its diet with invertebrates for protein. 
   Appearance
 Giant asian pond turtle is a large freshwater turtle known for its domed shell, which is usually brownish-green with yellowish vertical stripes. This robust shell is accentuated by a pronounced vertebral crest. Its skin is generally gray, with males often displaying brighter colors. Notably, giant asian pond turtle possesses a lengthy tail, which in males, is thicker and longer than in females. Juveniles have brighter colors than adults. 
   Behavior
 Giant asian pond turtle predominantly exhibits a solitary and terrestrial lifestyle, foraging diurnally for a herbivorous diet. Characteristic of this species is an unusual nesting behavior of creating mounds with vegetation. Terraforming their habitat, giant asian pond turtle also employs 'basking sites' - a survival adaptation for thermoregulation.
