Description
Heliobolus lugubris, also known commonly as the bushveld lizard, is a species of lizard in the family Lacertidae. The species is native to southern Africa.

Appearance
Bushveld lizard is a small lizard with tough, scalloped scales that give it a prickly look. A robust tail and short, powerful limbs complete its rugged appearance. It boasts shades of brown and grey for camouflage in their rocky environments. There doesn't appear to be a significant difference in coloration or size due to age, gender or subspecies.
Behavior
Bushveld lizard exhibits typical burrowing behavior as a survival strategy against predators and harsh environmental conditions. It is primarily a diurnal species, but can manifest nocturnal tendencies depending on climatic factors. The species is largely solitary, only seen in pairs during the breeding season.
