Description
The royal ghost frog (Heleophryne regis), also known as the southern ghost frog or Cape ghost frog, is a species of frog in the Heleophrynidae family. It is endemic to South Africa, and lives in fast-moving streams.

Royal ghost frog predominantly consumes small invertebrates. These Mountain Ghost Frogs hunt actively at night, preferring a diet rich in various spiders, beetles, and moths attracted to water seepages.
Behavior
Royal ghost frog is a nocturnal species with a solitary nature. The females exhibit maternal care, guarding their laid eggs and carrying tadpoles on their backs. Known for their alluring mating call, males call from concealed positions within rock crevices. Their behavior has adapted to their montane stream habitat, with quasi-aquatic lifestyle.
