Appearance
Nilgiri keelback is a medium-sized snake with slender body, smooth scales, and an elongated, thin tail. It exhibits a predominantly olive-brown hue with alternate bands of black and white forming a distinct pattern across its body. No significant differences exist between genders, ages, or subspecies. Its vibrant colors, contrasting pattern, and sleek form make it distinctly identifiable.
Behavior
Nilgiri keelback is a reclusive, nocturnal reptile known for a semi-aquatic lifestyle. It exhibits solitary behavior, avoiding interaction with its own kind until the mating season. This species, predominately a piscivore, employs ambush strategies when feeding, capturing prey with rapid strikes. Nilgiri keelback's secretive nature and camouflage grant it survival advantage in its deciduous forest habitat.
