Diet
Big mouth cave salamander primarily feeds on various small aquatic invertebrates. Specifically, their diet mainly consists of insects, spider larvae, and small crustaceans, found within their subterranean habitat.
Appearance
Big mouth cave salamander is a medium-sized salamander with a long, slender body. Its skin is wet and glossy, ranging from pale cream to pinkish-white in color devoid of unique markings or patterns. Big mouth cave salamander's most distinctive feature is its absence of eyes, replaced by a pair of flesh-covered sockets. This salamander's tail is keel-shaped and lateral line systems are prominently visible, suited for its cave-dwelling lifestyle. There are no notable age, gender, or subspecies differences in appearance.

Big mouth cave salamander is a cave-dwelling amphibian demonstrating a predominantly solitary lifestyle. Foraging for invertebrates and small crustaceans, it uses chemical cues rather than visual tactics.
