Diet
Particularly fond of small invertebrates, the diet of shieldhead gecko mainly consists of insects. They consume a variety of these, with a special fondness for ants, spiders, and other small arthropods.
Appearance
Shieldhead gecko is a small, robust lizard with smooth skin. Adults commonly exhibit tan to light gray dorsum with transversal darker bands. Peculiarly, they possess a distinct tail characterized by dark bands on a white base. Unlike many lizard species, sexual dimorphism is not particularly pronounced in shieldhead gecko, but males exhibit more vibrant colors during mating season.
Behavior
Shieldhead gecko exhibits arboreal tendencies, spending most of its time in trees. Predominantly insectivorous, its diet consists primarily of small insects which it actively hunts. This species exhibits unique gender-based color variation to communicate, with males displaying bright colors and females or juveniles adopting duller hues. It is generally solitary and highly territorial, with males defending their territories from rivals.
