Diet
Andean marsupial tree frog's diet primarily consists of small invertebrates. They show a particular preference for consuming a variety of arthropods, such as insects, spiders, and centipedes, constituting a substantial part of their dietary intake.
Appearance
Andean marsupial tree frog is a frog with a robust, globose body up to 7.5 cm in length, and smooth, moist skin. It displays a primary coloration of dark brown, interrupted by golden-green specks spread across its dorsal side. The ventral side is cream-coloured, providing contrast. A unique feature is its large, bulging eyes, which are golden with black, vertical pupils. A marsupium, or pouch, exists on the females' back, from where their offspring emerge.
Behavior
Andean marsupial tree frog holds a unique reproductive behavior where females carry eggs in dorsal pouches until metamorphosis. They have nocturnal habits, majorly foraging at night for small invertebrates. Primarily solitary outside mating season, their territorial defenses are minimal, relying more on camouflage within their arboreal habitat for survival.
