Diet

Crab-eating frog primarily feeds on mostly crustaceans including crabs and shrimp, and occasionally several species of insects and small fish. Their diet creates a mandatory link to water-rich habitats.

Appearance

Crab-eating frog is a medium-sized frog with a sturdy body and smooth skin. They primarily exhibit a grey or brown coloration mixed with patches of darker hues, providing effective camouflage. No significant differences in appearance occur due to age, gender, or subspecies. This amphibian lacks any distinctive appendages like horns or wings but has a prominent pair of hind legs, useful for strong leaps.

Behavior

Crab-eating frog showcases a spectrum of distinctive behaviors, including high physiological tolerance to salinity, enabling survival in coastal areas and brackish marshlands. This amphibian largely pursues a nocturnal lifestyle, engaging in foraging and territorial activity predominantly after dusk. The species is not inherently social, exhibiting limited interaction beyond mating rituals, which makes its behavior particularly intriguing.
