Description
The southern two-lined salamander (Eurycea cirrigera) is a species of salamander in the family Plethodontidae, endemic to the United States. Its natural habitats are temperate forests, rivers, intermittent rivers, swamps, and freshwater springs.

Appearance
Southern two-lined salamander is a small, slender salamander with smooth, moist skin. It showcases a main coloration of dark brown or black with lighter, often yellowish stripes running lengthways. Both genders display similar physical characteristics. Slightly swollen glands around the base of its tail serve as unique identifiers. It is virtually limbless with inconspicuous eyes that blend well into its body.
Behavior
Southern two-lined salamander resides in aquatic environments and showcases nocturnal behavior, hunting for small invertebrates during the night. They mostly live solitarily, but can form small groups during the breeding season. Southern two-lined salamander is not a highly territorial species, showing relatively low aggression. Its primary survival mechanism is its ability to camouflage within its moist habitat.
