Appearance
European leaf-toed gecko is a small gecko, typically measuring up to 5cm in length. Its slender body is covered in smooth skin, predominately brown or gray with darker spots. The distinct eyes are large and vertically elliptical, and the tail is sturdy and can regenerate if lost. Unlike many species, there is no significant difference in appearance between genders or due to age.
Behavior
European leaf-toed gecko is a primarily nocturnal species known for its characteristic climbing and jumping behavior. Although solitary, this species communicates with conspecifics using visual and chemical signals. Its small territories are defended fiercely, often marked by head bobbing and lateral body flattening tactics. Usually, it forages for small invertebrates. Remarkably, it survives winters by utilizing rock crevices for hibernation.
