Description
The steppe-runner (Eremias arguta) is a species of lizard found in Turkey, Romania, Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Tajikistan, Mongolia, and China.

Steppe runner is predatorily inclined and primarily feeds on arthropods. It has displayed preference for ants and beetles, implying an inclination towards invertebrates that are abundant in its rocky-steppe habitat.
Appearance
Steppe runner is a small to medium-sized lizard featuring a cylindrical body covered with rough, scale-like skin. Its coloration primarily spans hues of tan and brown, with distinctive black and white spots and patterns on its dorsal side. The lizard exhibits a long, slender tail. No significant differences in appearance due to age, gender, or subspecies exist.
Behavior
Steppe runner exhibits diurnal habits, basking during the early morning and late afternoon for thermoregulation. Exceptionally fast runners, they use this to avoid predators and during territorial disputes. Primarily solitary, males can be aggressive during the breeding season. Steppe runner is an excellent burrower, utilizing this skill both for refuge and hibernation in colder temperatures.
