Draco melanopogon, commonly known as the black-bearded gliding lizard, is a species of agamid "flying lizard" endemic to Southeast Asia.

Black-barbed flying dragon primarily consumes various types of arthropods. It has a penchant for ants, but also feeds on spiders and small beetles, showcasing a preference for prey with soft exoskeletons.
Appearance
Black-barbed flying dragon is a small gliding lizard with a distinct slender body, covered in tiny scales. It boasts a remarkable feature, with elongated ribs that form 'wings'. Its main coloration is brownish-black, with a prominent black gular pouch under the neck that males employ for territorial displays. A crest of multiple rows of black spines edges the neck and upper parts of the body, giving it a luxurious, 'bearded' appearance.
Behavior
Black-barbed flying dragon are arboreal lizards known for their gliding behavior, enabled by the patagium, a fold of skin which they extend while airborne. They boast distinctive territorial displays, using their large gular pouch to deter competitors. Solitary in nature, they secure their territories by vocalizations and physical displays. Their endemic habitat includes the dense canopies of Southeast Asia's rainforests, making their gliding behavior a survival adaptation.
