Diet

Western ghats flying lizard's diet largely consists of small arboreal arthropods, with a particular fondness for ants and termites. It is an opportunistic feeder, supplementing its diet with various soft fruits when available.

Appearance

The western ghats flying lizard is small in size, with rod-like body and loose skin. The skin is scaly with a predominantly green coloration, punctuated by patches of blue or orange. This reptile is distinctive due to the elongated, wing-like projections extending from the body, used for gliding. Males project a large, yellow gular pouch during displays. The young ones are less vibrant, while there is minimal difference in appearance between subspecies.

Behavior

Western ghats flying lizard exhibits an extraordinary gliding behavior, utilizing specialized rib-cage extensions to float between trees. This arboreal species is mostly solitary, each individual having its own feeding and breeding territory. Males communicate their dominance and defend territories by performing visual displays, unfurling and undulating their wing-like membranes.
