The Tyrrhenian painted frog (Discoglossus sardus) is a species of frog in the Alytidae family (formerly Discoglossidae). It is found in Sardinia, Corsica and the Tuscan Archipelago.

Appearance
Tyrrhenian painted frog is a small, stout amphibian with smooth, moist skin. Its color varies from brown to green, often featuring black spots. This frog’s cylindrical body is complemented by a flat head, small eyes, and very short hind limbs. Males and females look similar; however, during the breeding season, males develop blue patches on their flanks and throat.
Behavior
Tyrrhenian painted frog is a nocturnal species typically solitary outside the breeding season. It is known for its peculiar call, a characteristic 'quack', during the mating period. Tyrrhenian painted frog's diet mainly consists of various insects. During dry seasons, it exhibits aestivation behavior as a survival adaptation.
