Diet
The primary food source for ord's kangaroo rat is plant material, specifically grass seeds and sprouts. They also supplement their diet with insects and occasionally small fruits, with a preference for moisture-rich food to compensate for their arid habitat.
Appearance
Ord's kangaroo rat is a small, rodent-like creature, with a slender body covered in soft, dense, brownish-grey fur. It possesses disproportionately large hind legs and smaller fore limbs. This nocturnal mammal is characterized by a distinctly long tail, which is used for balance, and fur-lined cheek pouches for storing food. There is minimal variance in appearance between ages and genders.
Behavior
Ord's kangaroo rat are nocturnal and solitary, venturing from their burrows at twilight to forage. These species exhibit a unique form of locomotion, bounding in large leaps to evade predators. Males are territorially aggressive, and mark their territories with scent glands. They favor arid environments, adapting to survive in barren landscapes.
