Description
The lesser treefrog (Dendropsophus minutus) is native to the tropical and subtropical forests of South America, and covers a surprisingly varied set of climate zones. It has also been observed in pasture land and urban areas. Lesser treefrogs found in regions with greater seasonal temperature differences tend to grow larger than those in purely tropical climates.

Diet
Lesser treefrog's dietary habits revolve primarily around small insects. It exhibits a preference for ants and beetles, cleverly tracking these prey during the night with its keen, specialized senses.
Appearance
The lesser treefrog is a tiny frog with a slender body, extending up to only 2.5 cm in length. It has smooth, bright skin which is yellowish-orange in color absorbing the nocturnal light. Males often develop black spots on the inner thighs. An eye-catching feature is the vibrant eye color that contrasts against its skin. When it matures, the lesser treefrog can exhibit diverse color patterns, with females being larger than males.
Behavior
Lesser treefrog is a nocturnal, arboreal species exhibiting male vocalization for mating calls, often from vegetation near water bodies. Its distinctive reproductive habit involves direct development of eggs on leaf litter without a tadpole stage. Though largely solitary, competition during breeding season is fierce, witnessing males defending territory vociferously. Lesser treefrog also adapts to various habitats, including anthropogenic areas.
