Diet
Hourglass treefrog feeds predominantly on small invertebrates, favoring a diet of small arthropods - notably insects such as beetles and ants. It also consumes spiders and various types of larvae.
Appearance
Hourglass treefrog is a small treefrog, typically 1-1.5 inches long. They have smooth yellow to olive green skin and light undersides. Distinctively, these frogs showcase hourglass-shaped dark markings on their backs and dark bands on their thighs. Males have a single internal vocal sac and are usually smaller than females. Unique to this species, their colour and pattern can change based on the time of day and their surrounding environment.
Behavior
Hourglass treefrog is a nocturnal amphibian, typically solitaire outside its mating period. During this time, males vocalize from water-filled cavities to attract females. The species exhibits unique parental care, with eggs laid both in water and on leaves, depending on rain and humidity levels. They display neither territorial marking nor defense behaviors.
