Diet
Black agouti predominantly feeds on fruits, notably palm nuts, but their flexible diet also includes leaves, stems, and a variety of invertebrates, adapting based on seasonal availability.
Appearance
Black agouti possesses a fairly stout, short-legged body, coated in coarse fur. Their coat primarily exhibits a dark brown coloration, accentuated by lighter fur on the belly. They lack marked differences across genders or age groups. Their prominent features include their large head, small ears, and a bushy tail, adding nuance to their overall appearance.
Behavior
Black agouti is primarily diurnal and herbivorous, foraging for fruits, seeds, and leaves, storing surplus food in burrows. It is a monogamous and territorial creature, marking its territory with scent glands.
