Lifespan
10-12 years
Diet
Dhole is primarily a carnivore, with prey such as ungulates making up a significant part of its diet. This species exhibits pack hunting behavior, tending to strategize its attacks on large, hoofed mammals such as deer and wild boars.
Appearance
Dhole is a medium-sized canid with a lean build and a thick, bushy tail. Its fur is typically russet-red, though variations can be seen. Notably, dhole has characteristic white fur on its chest, belly, and inner ears. The muzzle is long and its paws are broad, well-suited to a life of hunting in diverse terrains.
Behavior
Dhole are social, forming cohesive packs with complex hierarchy structures. They are highly territorial, marking and defending their areas prominently and are primarily crepuscular. Exceptional hunters, they utilize cooperative strategies, exhibiting a unique trait of allowing subordinates to eat first. Adapted for durability, they may cover considerable distances in search of prey. However, during periods of food scarcity, they show a tendency for dispersed foraging.
