Diet
The diet of cuban racer predominantly comprises arachnids and insects, particularly centipedes and spiders. Caterpillars, beetles, and insects' larvae also form a significant part of its food intake.
Appearance
Cuban racer is a moderately long, slender snake with smooth, glossy scales. This reptile typically measures between 70-90 cm in length, showcasing a predominantly blueish-black coloration marked by a series of narrow, yellowish crossbars. It has distinct round eyes with a horizontal pupil, and no pronounced difference in appearance between sexes or various ages is recorded.
Behavior
Cuban racer is a solitary and primarily nocturnal species, employing sit-and-wait hunting tactics to capture prey. Atypically for its genus, cuban racer is a highly arboreal animal, spending much of its time in trees. Males exhibit territorial defense behavior, aggressively warning conspecific rivals from their perches with visible displays and physical confrontations.
