Diet
New guinea crocodile, also known as the New Guinea Crocodile, is a carnivorous species. It primarily consumes fish and small mammals, but also shows a propensity for opportunistic feeding, scavenging on carrion when available.
Appearance
New guinea crocodile is a large, heavy-bodied reptile with a robust, flat tail and thick, rugged, dark green or grey skin. Its body is elongated and its snout is broad, housing rows of pointed, conical teeth. Its eyes, ears, and nostrils are on the top of its head, enabling it to submerge its body underwater while still being able to surveil its surroundings.
Behavior
New guinea crocodile is predominantly nocturnal, engaging in hunting activities after sunset. This semi-aquatic species exhibits territorial aggression, especially in mating season and frequently utilizes underwater hideouts for comfort and protection. Exceptionally solitary outside mating season, it is known for its ambush predation technique which is crucial for survival in its riverine and marshy habitat.
