Coleonyx elegans, the Yucatán banded gecko, is a species of geckos found in Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize.

Yucatán banded gecko is predominately insectivorous, with a substantial proportion of its diet consisting of different types of beetles. This nocturnal gecko is also known to occasionally consume small arachnids and insect larvae.
Appearance
Yucatán banded gecko is a small, slender-bodied lizard with a flattened head and smooth skin. Its coloration varies from tan to dark brown, overlaid with darker banding or mottled patterns that aid in camouflage. Its tail is long, tapering to a point, and also bears the same patterning. There are no significant differences in appearance between different ages, genders, or subspecies.
Behavior
Yucatán banded gecko is a nocturnal creature, mostly active during the night. It tends to live a largely solitary life, seeking company only during the mating season. It's noted for its burrowing behavior, digging extensive networks underground, which it uses for foraging and hiding from predators.
