Diet
Brazilian porcupine exhibits primarily herbivorous dietary habits, focusing extensively on leaves, flowers, and fruits. It exhibits a preference for fruiting species, interspersed with occasional ingestion of insects and small vertebrates.
Appearance
The brazilian porcupine is a medium-sized rodent with stout, spiny fur that mixes white, brown, and black hues. Its most distinguishing feature is the extremely long, powerful, prehensile tail, which is essential for maneuvering in its arboreal habitat. This species is known for its crescent-shaped ears, small eyes, and long, curved claws for climbing. There are no evident differences in appearance due to age, gender, or subspecies.
Behavior
Brazilian porcupine is a predominantly nocturnal arboreal species, deriving sustenance primarily from foliage, fruits, and flowers. Remarkable for their prehensile tails, which function almost like a fifth limb, they are solitary, with territories marked through scent glands. They exhibit slow, cautious movement to avoid predation.
