Diet
Spotted turtle's dietary habits primarily consist of carnivorous intake, with a fondness for small invertebrates such as insects, spiders, and mollusks. Aquatic vegetation also complements their diet.
Appearance
Spotted turtle is a small freshwater turtle with a smooth, keelless shell that ranges from brown to black, and is adorned with tiny, round, bright yellow spots. The turtle's throat, limbs, and tail are patterned with dark lines and spots on a yellow background. Females are known to grow larger than males with a maximum shell length of 19cm. Juveniles sport a textured shell and continuously change pattern until adulthood.
Behavior
Spotted turtle is predominantly solitary, spending most of its life on land within a small home range. Observed foraging on a diverse range of food items, from mollusks to vegetation, it demonstrates a remarkable adaptability. Mating rituals include males performing vigorous dances. Not overtly territorial, spotted turtle is, however, intolerant of others in its vicinity during nesting.
