The resplendent Desert Shovel-Nosed Snake is a small, brightly-colored burrowing snake native to the deserts of Southern and Baja California. It is built for digging, with a wormlike shape, a shovel-shaped nose, nostrils that can seal up against dirt, and a concave abdomen. It basically swims through sand, hunting invertebrates and sometimes not even surfacing to eat them.
