Diet
Sand snake primarily sustains itself on a diet of arthropods. Significant portions of its diet consist of spiders and small insects, fulfilling its predatory, carnivorous nature.
Appearance
Sand snake is a small, worm-like snake with smooth, glossy scales. Its predominantly straw-yellow coloration is occasionally interrupted by distinctive brown or black bands. This snake lacks limbs and external ears, typical of its serpentine body shape. Males and females look similar with little sexual dimorphism. Juvenile snakes resemble adults but are slightly more vivid in color.
Behavior
Sand snake is a nocturnal animal, known for its solitary behavior, with the exception of mating periods. It buries itself in sand during daytime to evade predators and harsh temperatures. Markedly, it uses tongue flicking to detect chemical changes in the environment, aiding in prey location.
