Description
The eastern long-necked turtle (Chelodina longicollis) is an east Australian species of snake-necked turtle that inhabits a wide variety of water bodies and is an opportunistic feeder. It is a side-necked turtle (Pleurodire), meaning that it bends its head sideways into its shell rather than pulling it directly back.

Appearance
Eastern long-necked turtle is a semi-aquatic turtle with a distinctive streamlined, oval-shaped, flat-bottomed shell covered in leathery skin. It varies in colors from pale greyish-brown to dark brown. This animal is known for its long, flexible neck, often longer than its shell, which is around 25cm long. Males have longer tails than females. The species does not possess any significant markings or unique patterns.

Eastern long-necked turtle, a freshwater turtle, is a slow-moving, chiefly nocturnal species, using the darkness for foraging and ensuring moisture retention. Known for its unique neck retraction method which aids in ambush hunting, it's solitary for most of its life except during breeding season. Eastern long-necked turtle's behavioral uniqueness emerges during brumation beneath mud or sand during harsh weather.
