Diet
Italian three-toed skink primarily consumes invertebrates, with a particular fondness for insects and spider. The species displays a varied diet, but has a decided preference for beetles and other small, soft-bodied invertebrates.
Appearance
Italian three-toed skink is a small, slender reptile reaching lengths of up to 25 centimeters. Its skin is characterized by smooth, overlapping scales in shades of bronze, gold, or gray and, sometimes, a hint of blue. Notably, it has five toes on each foot, unlike other lizards, and exhibits an intriguing body-slithering motion similar to snakes. There are no significant differences in appearance due to age or gender.
Behavior
Italian three-toed skink is a viviparous species which is observed to exhibit diurnal activity patterns. It is primarily solitary, yet communal during hibernation in shared dens. Notably, males' aggressive territorial behavior is characterized by tail wagging, bite attempts, and body thrashing. This skink relies heavily on burrowing for survival in its natural Mediterranean habitats.
