General Info
Lifespan
5-8 years
Diet
Rhinoceros agama primarily sustains itself on a diet of insects, namely ants and termites. This species exhibits a specialized feeding habit, actively hunting and consuming invertebrates from leaf litter.
Appearance
Rhinoceros agama is a small-sized lizard characterized by a conical horn on its snout. Its body is elongated and covered in scales with predominantly green-brown coloration. Some unique features are the turquoise spots on its flanks and a vibrantly colored dewlap. Males sport a larger horn and brighter dewlap than females, making them easily distinguishable.
Behavior
Rhinoceros agama is a solitary, primarily arboreal species, characteristically perching motionless on branches during the day. Its ability to change colors provides effective camouflage in its forest habitat. Unlike others, this lizard does not engage in aggressive territorial disputes, instead relying on color displays to signal dominance.
