Diet
Worm snake predominantly consumes soft-bodied invertebrates, with a strong affinity for earthworms. Its diet also includes small arthropods, mainly various insects and small spiders, serving its carnivorous nature.
Appearance
The worm snake is a small, slender snake, usually measuring 7-11 inches long. Its skin is smooth, non-reflective and is primarily a rich, uniform reddish-brown. This species differs from many snakes in having a pointed tail and no distinctive head shape. No differences in appearance are noted between ages, genders, or subspecies.
Behavior
Worm snake is a nocturnal and solitary species, often found hiding under rocks and leaves during the day. It employs a unique 'mole-like' foraging behavior, tunneling through soil in search of its prey. Worm snake does not defend territories and shows no observable social dynamics. Its survival is facilitated by its elusive nature and a cryptic coloration that camouflages it in its terrestrial habitat.
