Description
Calotes nemoricola, the Nilgiri Forest lizard, is an agamid lizard found in the Western Ghats of India (Nilgiri Hills, Anaimalai, Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, Coorg, Agumbe).

Appearance
Nilgiri forest lizard is a medium-sized reptile with a spiny crest along its back to the base of its long, tubular tail. Its scales have a rich green hue, with males often boasting a strikingly contrasted orange head during breeding season. They can also transform their color to a reddish-brown when threatened. The species is notable for a dewlap—an extra flap of skin under the neck—seen mainly in males.
Behavior
Nilgiri forest lizard is mainly solitary, displaying unique head and body movements during courtship. It uses visual signals, including color changes, to indicate dominant or submissive status in confrontations, or during reproductive activities. Well-adapted to arboreal life, it forages predominantly on insects.
