Diet
Common caco primarily subsists on a diet of small invertebrates. This opportunistic feeder predominantly consumes insects and their larvae, with a pronounced preference for ants and termites, gleaned from the forest floor.
Appearance
Common caco is a small frog measuring about 15–20 mm in length with a slender body. Its skin is smooth and glossy, predominantly dark brown with black spots but sometimes has reddish-brown markings. The underbelly is a lighter brown. It lacks visible tympanums or ear drums and exhibits sexual dimorphism; males have nuptial pads on their thumbs and vocal sacs.
Behavior
Common caco follows a nocturnal lifestyle, spending the day concealed under groundcover and becoming active at night. Mating behavior includes male call display, often in chorus, with populations preferring small water sources. Common caco is solitary outside the breeding season, which usually corresponds with heavy rains.
