General Info
Lifespan
12-20 years
Diet
Blue krait predominantly feeds on other serpents, highlighting its nature as an obligate ophiophagus. This species demonstrates a propensity for non-venomous snakes, yet displays adaptability with venomous varieties included in its diet.
Appearance
Blue krait is a relatively long, slender snake, with smooth, glossy skin. It's distinguished by black and white bands, of nearly equal width, running along its body. The head is flattened and somewhat triangular. Its tail tapers to a fine point. No significant visual differences exist due to age, gender or subspecies.
Behavior
Blue krait exhibits primarily nocturnal behavior, actively hunting its prey using acute sense of smell and vision. It's a solitary species, interacting only during breeding season. Although typically passive, it displays defensive postures when threatened, ejecting venom with precision. Despite its potent venom, blue krait usually avoids confrontation, signifying its benign nature unless provoked.
