Description
Bufo eichwaldi, commonly known as Eichwald's toad or the Talysh toad, is a species of true toad in the family Bufonidae. It was first described by Litvinchuk, Borkin, Skorinov and Rosanov in 2008 and is found in the Talysh Mountains in Azerbaijan and parts of Iran. It was previously considered to be a subspecies of the Caucasian toad (Bufo verrucosissimus).

Appearance
Talysh toad is a medium-sized toad with rough, warty skin. It exhibits a distinct yellow-brown to olive coloration, often with darker mottling or spots. Males are typically smaller and possess a dark throat, which the females lack. Recognizable features include large, oval, horizontally slitted eyes and pronounced parotoid glands releasing toxins behind the eyes. No evident distraction from the tail, wings, or horns.
Behavior
Talysh toad is characterized by its nocturnal, solitary lifestyle, emerging under cover of darkness to consume a diet predominantly of insects. This amphibian species displays a unique mating behavior, with males establishing individual territories during mating season, emitting call sequences to attract females. Adapted to arid environments, talysh toad conserves moisture by resting in burrowed holes during the day.
