Diet
Marbled crested lizard is predominantly insectivorous, with a primary diet of arthropods. Specializing in ants, beetles, and spiders, it also supplements its food intake with small vertebrates and occasional fruit.
Appearance
Marbled crested lizard is a medium-sized lizard, with elongated, slender bodies wrapped in smooth, shiny scales. Prominently green with brownish-granulated patterns, their skin often exhibits color changes to blend with surroundings. Males and females are alike except during mating when males intensify their colors. Notable features are the long tail, almost double the length of its body, and noticeable serrations on its back, which become more pronounced during threat displays.
Behavior
Marbled crested lizard exhibits a typically diurnal lifestyle, active mostly during the day. It tends to reside and forage alone, demonstrating a largely solitary existence except during mating periods. Known for its climbing and jumping efficiency, marbled crested lizard uses these skills for foraging and evading predators, showcasing an adaptation to its arboreal habitat. A lack of territorial aggression indicates minimal territorial marking.
