Description
Found in woodlands, brushlands and savannahs in central and eastern Africa, the sudan plated lizard prefers to shelter in rock piles. They are omnivorous but mostly eat insects. They are shy, but have a docile temperament that has made them popular in the pet trade. Weirdly, the scales on their heads are actually fused to their skulls.

Sudan plated lizard, commonly known as the Broadleysaurus, maintains an entirely carnivorous diet. It frequently consumes a variety of small mammals, birds, and reptiles, demonstrating a particular preference for rodents and lizards.
Appearance
Sudan plated lizard is a medium-sized reptile with a heavily built, elongated body and bright red or brown rough skin. It has a distinctive deep facial groove on each side of the head and a sharply pointed snout and tail. Males are typically larger and more brightly colored than females. Young sudan plated lizard are pale with faint black speckles that darken with age.
Behavior
Sudan plated lizard is an exceptionally solitary species exhibiting daytime activity, whilst maintaining a primary diet of small mammals and birds. Displaying territorial tendencies, males use head-bobbing to assert dominance and defend their territories. For camouflage, sudan plated lizard adopts a flattened body posture to blend in with its rocky surroundings.
