 Bothrops jararacussu, commonly known in English as the jararacussu, is a venomous pit viper species endemic to South America.

 Jararacussu displays a carnivorous feeding pattern, primarily consuming small mammals and birds. Besides preying on rodents and bats, it also shows a special preference for marsupials, capoeira rats, and possums. 
   Appearance
 Jararacussu is a large, stout snake with a distinctly triangular head. The skin is scaly and rough, possessing a captivating pattern of dark brown or blackish crossbands on a lighter brown or greenish background. It lacks any prominent appendages like wings or horns. It shows gender differences, males are generally smaller and leaner compared to bulkier and longer females. Young ones bear a similar pattern but with more contrast in their coloring. 
   Behavior
 Jararacussu is a solitary, nocturnal snake, known for its ambush predation tactic. It remains motionless in hiding awaiting prey, using its vibrant coloration as camouflage. It's primarily terrestrial but can climb trees for hunting. Highly territorial, jararacussu will defend its area with aggressive posturing and potential striking.
