Description
The appearance of the auroch can be reconstructed on the basis of bone finds, historical descriptions and contemporary representations, such as cave paintings or those in the works of Siegmund von Herberstein or Conrad Gessners. The "Augsburger Ur" is often used as a source. This illustration by Charles Hamilton Smith dates from the 19th century, but is based on a contemporary oil painting.

Diet
Cattle is a herbivorous species, predominantly consuming grasses and other plant material. Their specialized digestive systems enable efficient fermentation of high-fiber food, such as hay and silage. Additionally, they also consume grains and other supplements for a balanced nutritional intake.
Appearance
Cattle is a sizeable, stout-bodied animal, with short, coarse fur usually in black, white or a mix of both colors. They have a hump over the shoulders, long tails ending in a tuft, and curved horns in both sexes. Males tend to be larger with thicker horns. Calf coloration may slightly differ from adult patterns until maturity.
Behavior
Cattle exhibit herd behavior, engaging in mutual grooming to strengthen social bonds and reduce stress. They are predominantly diurnal, spending their daytime hours grazing, whereas nights are reserved for rumination. Cattle communicate through a complex blend of vocal, visual, and olfactory signals, thereby maintaining social hierarchy within the group. They are also known to display territorial behavior when competition for resources increases.
